I am a PhD student affiliated with the Global Change Research Institute (CzechGlobe) at the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Department of Geography, Masaryk University.
My research background is a Physical Geography. This means that I can study environmental processes using a combination of different datasets, from hydroclimatological series to ecological data to biogeochemical measurements, and a wide range of methods (field, laboratory and literature) at different spatial and temporal scales. After spending some time analysing and processing palaeoclimatic data from Antarctic and Svalbard lake sediments (BSc and MSc degrees), I became interested in truffle research (PhD). Specifically, how truffles grow and coexist/interact with other organisms, how they occur and are found, and how this information is relevant to current issues in the (global) truffle industry under environmental change.
There are many people I am honoured to work with, including Prof Dr Ulf Büntgen (PhD supervisor, University of Cambridge), Prof Mirek Trnka (CzechGlobe), Prof Paul W. Thomas (University of Stirling), Dr Daniel Oliach and Giada Centenaro (University of Lledia), Dr Martina Peter (WSL Birmensdorf).
Practical know-how and experience are key in truffle hunting. That is why I collaborate with people who have left academic contracts and now apply their knowledge in private companies: István Bagi (NEFAG ZRt.), Dr Simon Egli (Limmattrüffel), Dr Ulrich Stobbe and Ludger Sproll (Deutsche Trüffelbäume).
